Below the footbridge is excellent fly fishing that is easily accessible for a half mile downstream with rainbows mostly in the 12 inch class. This trail is preferred by those that use horses. Canyon gets tight beyond those areas and requires rock climbing. Although brown troutarequite rare on the Middle Fork they tend to be caught more during the early season. You can find parking just before crossing the bridge. If youre planning a day-trip into the canyon make sure you plan on estimating the time it will take to get back to your vehicle. It is the only fork that is undammed therefore it continues to remain truly wild and scenic. In Spring and early Summer, large Browns will wait in these areas for food. Hikers can climb to the top of the Sierra Buttes, Mt. Open Season Another good spot to try is the north side of the lake where a pipe from Three Lakes empties near the dam. During the Summer months of August and early September, the surface temperatures of the lake are too high and the fish are deep, usually out of reach for fly fishing.
